… when a body sensation appears, I bring attention directly to the point of origin, the place where it begins, and rest quietly there. I’ve found that by going right to the source of the energy, any resistance I may have to feeling it is eliminated. It becomes easy, even effortless, to let the energy be the way it already is. If there was a sense of distance between me and the energy, that quickly dissipates as the perspective is changed, as does any sense of a self who is feeling the energy. There is only sensation happening, and there is no problem with it being the way it is.
I have an old shoulder injury from falling down the stairs many years ago. It hurts most of the time, and even when the pain is less, it always seems to be lurking in the background. Every week when I go to the chiropractor, I ask him to adjust it. Sometimes it hurts so much that he uses kinesio tape to help it heal. I always get temporary relief from that, as well as from the massage that I get twice per month.
Yesterday morning I woke up with a lot of pain in that shoulder, so I decided to do some inquiry on it. For those who have been asking how to do self-inquiry on pain, here’s how my process went.
It’s that ‘Sense of an Intelligence Here’ that seemed to form what we call a person – the core of the me-ness. It’s hard to describe really – that sense of intelligence. I haven’t quite seen it like this before. It’s like that sense of intelligence is the only way I can know that I exist as a life form. It’s what seems to claim ownership of all of the thoughts, feelings and experiences. As I rested with that sense, and let that be too, I could find no command on it to be perfect. As I looked deeper, I saw that it’s not me.
Truth. Awareness. Consciousness. I AM. Oneness. Life Happening As It Is. Be Here Now. We all know the phrases. We’ve all used them, as though we actually understood what they meant, while underneath it all there was either a subtle or overt longing to actually experience what we pretended to understand.
